On June 9, 2007, the world was introduced to a device that would forever affect them and the world of technology. Instead of the typical bulky, half-keyboard devices we were all used to, Steve Jobs came out with the very first iPhone and set the stage for smartphones for years to come. Can you imagine what the world would be like today if Apple did not create the iPhone? Would we still be using keypads? Would we rely on computers/laptops more? There are an endless amount of questions to be asked, but there is no doubt the evolution of the iPhone was revolutionary.

The very first one released was the iPhone 1. There were smartphones with a touchscreen, but nothing like this. This device offered technology people had never seen before. Along with the touchscreen, a rarely seen before concept on phones was the app store. The app store provided an endless amount of apps and services all users could utilize. The technology of the first iPhone seems simple now, but it was just the start of the most sought-after smartphone brand.

Since its creation, there has been a new release with an improved version each year. After the first iPhone was released, a newer one came out with some improvements. Although there was not much of a change, it was creating more buzz around the brand. A year later, the iPhone 4 had a new look while still offering most of the same features. The iPhone 5, 5S, and 5C were released throughout 2012-13 and gave a new, more modern look along with numerous color options.
In 2014, Apple started a new feature in its releases. When the iPhone 6 came out, there was an option called the 6SPlus. This means it is the same phone with relatively similar features, just bigger. This development was the start of a trend. Again, a year later came the iPhone 7 and 7Plus, but now the Plus came with a higher-quality camera. Another new twist was the lack of a headphone jack, which was partly a strategy to get people to buy the new AirPods because they were wireless.
The iPhone 8 and 8Plus releases were somewhat controversial. Many considered it too similar to the 7 to be higher priced. The size was a little larger and the back was made of glass, but many people complained of the quality. Apple used this criticism to create the iPhone X and XE, which had the most drastic changes of any other generation. This phone offered a retina display, no home button, and many new features.

Apple never fails to amaze its customers with every new release, especially when it comes to cameras. Apple is known to have one of the highest-quality cameras seen on a smartphone. We thought the iPhone X had a nice camera, the iPhone 11 featured two different cameras with new features on zoom and lighting. To take this a step further, the 12 ProMax and 13 Pro offer three cameras for an amplified camera system and some of the largest displays we have seen.
As you can see, the Apple iPhone changed the technology of smartphones and their capabilities. Today, nearly half of the population owns an iPhone. That is a significantly large percentage considering all the other brands of smartphones. I can only imagine how much the brand will continue to grow and I cannot wait to see the iPhones of the future.
Food for Thought
